Earlier this month (October 6), 27 of the icelolly.com team went the extra mile (23 to be exact) and challenged themselves to walk the gruelling Yorkshire Three Peaks in less than 12 hours to raise money for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.
Thanks to their resilience, they were able to secure a staggering £4,329 for the charity, smashing their initial goal of £2,500.
Of the five years that icelolly.com have worked with the charity, which specialises in providing support for babies, children and adults born with congenital heart defects across the region, this is the first year they’ve opted to fundraise by completing a challenge of this magnitude.
With the fastest walker finishing in 10 hours, and the last group crossing the finish line after a hefty 11 hours and 45 minutes, it was no mean feat. From rock climbing up Pen-y-ghent, struggling with the steep descent after Whernside and scrambling up parts of Ingleborough on all fours, the team really had to dig deep.
After completing the punishing route through North Yorkshire, the team also donated £100 to the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority to help them reach their £50,000 target to preserve the badly eroded paths.
